Anjali Dyslexia Association Kolkata ADAK supports intelligent learners in mainstream schools who may learn differently.
Statistical data & Co-occurrence:
Global statistics shows ADHD is a common co -occurring disability with Dyslexia.
Another co-occurring difficulty is Dyspraxia or DCD . Dyspraxia is a difficulty is a co-ordination difficulty. A child with Dyspraxia appears clumsy and disorganised.
Need for early identification:
It is mandatory to have early identification and to have remedial help advance to a learner with Specific Learning Difficulty SLD. Earlier a learner is identified and helped the better is the chance for tackling the difficulty /disability . When appropriate remedial support is provided often a learner with SLD can perform as well his/her peers.
PWD Act 2016 provides provisions to support SLD learners by means of accommodations and certifications.
All major school boards recognise the need to support the Dyslexic learner.
It is now considered mandatory to have proper evaluation of Specific Learning Disability ( eg. Dyslexia ) by qualified professionals. Intervention or support involves tailored educational strategies to address specific learning needs of an individual.
IT is important to realise that in spite of common characteristics of Dyslexia , all odf them have both strengths and weaknesses . Many of them may have additional exceptional talents. It is important to remember that every profile of learners with Specific Learning Difficulty will be unique. These disabilities can occur stand alone or in any combination.
